2004 PROBE Outstanding Achievement Awards

Each year PROBE announces this special recognition for outstanding accomplishments that promoted barbershop harmony in a big way. These awards are given to districts, chapters, quartets, or individuals based on Creativity, Impact, Exposure and Results. This award covers the preceding 12 months and is announced at each International Convention. This year there were 54 nominations and the top efforts were selected by the PROBE Board of Directors and other PR VIPs. Congratulations to all.

 

The Alexandria, Virginia Harmonizers for their 5th performance as part of the Kennedy Center Honors that aired December 26th, 2003 on CBS TV saluting Mike Nichols with President George Bush in attendance.
The Dallas, Texas
Vocal Majority
for their October 17, 2003 performance on the Sean Hannity "Town Hall" radio tour. This national broadcast reached an audience listener base of 10 million and more than 200 U.S. radio stations.

76th Army Band
for organizing the Victory Harmonizers of Baghdad, Iraq. Twelve singers who rehearsed weekly and first met on August 12th, 2003 sang Barbershop in one of Saddam Hussein's former Palaces.
Steve Tremper, the famous Harmonet Reporter for keeping up with all the scores over the past nine years and accurately providing them, free of charge, via his website. His scores are a relied source of valuable info used by many.
Grady Kerr of Dallas, Texas for the PROBE website covering the Montreal 2003 Int'l Convention with scores, photos, news and up-to-the minute results and generating over 8000 hits.
Toronto Northern Lights Chorus for their appearance nationwide on CTV's "Canada AM Dec 5, 2003.

Big Chicken Chorus

David Wagner of Dallas, Texas for taking over 3600 photos of the Montreal Convention and making them available free of charge via the internet on behalf of PROBE.
Nashville Music City Chorus, Memphis Cotton Boll Chorus and Central Alabama Chorus for innovative public rehearsals at local Shopping Mall storefronts on an ongoing basis in 2003.
Rich Taylor of New Jersey for the creation of The Harmony Network and four weekly live shows airing world-wide via the internet.
Dan Lindroos and the Mt. Baker, Washington chapter for their efforts in bringing barbershop music to Finland with the goal to start chapter in that country.
"United We Sing" September 11th nationwide tribute program developed by Bruce Koepcke, Gary Denton, Clark Abrahamson, Rick Barry, Roger Carls and Reed Sampson.
Saltaires Show Chorus appeared on national television, performing at the Provo Freedom Festival in Provo, Utah during the summer 2003 for 14,000 people and world-wide television Broadcast.
Four on the Floor quartet for appearing on a Roaring ‘20’s awards banquet for the Dhaharn Theater Group for a U.S./British audience employed in Saudi Arabia.
Great Quartets radio shows featuring The Suntones, The Buffalo Bills and The Mills Brothers produced by Grady Kerr of Dallas that aired on several a cappella radio shows world-wide including The Encore Show, The Applause Show, Lotsa A Cappella KRNU's Vocal Chords, KKUP's The Human Voice Show.
Christopher Baker for maintaining and promoting the Barbershop Harmony Webring system - a free link of over 250 barbershop web pages on the Internet since December of 1996.
Benjy Trollop of New Zealand for creating an extensive Trivia File covering all aspects of the history of International competition including every person who has appeared on the International stage, every quartet, every chorus, scores and more from 1939 to present day.
Vantastix Bryan Chadima (T), Mike Mendyke (L), Eric Bradley (Br), Dick Van Dyke (Bs) for their performance of the National Anthem prior to the Los Angeles "Lakers" vs. Detroit "Pistons" NBA Finals Game 1 broadcast to millions on ABC-TV June 2004.
